Launching #MyMQ: see the real Macquarie

Choosing a university can be challenging when you’re an international student. Marketing brochures and rankings can be helpful, but how do you get a real picture of what a university is like when you’re on the other side of the world?

We’re excited to launch #MyMQ , a new section within the Globe. #MyMQ lets you see Macquarie through the eyes of our students as they share their experiences through social media.

You’ll follow them as they discover our amazing campus and experience life in Sydney. You’ll also be inspired by the incredible scenery as they travel around Australia during academic breaks.

And the best part? All Macquarie students can join in. Simply use the hashtag #MyMQ on Instagram or Twitter.

MEET THE #MYMQ CONTRIBUTORS

We caught up with some of our regular #MyMQ contributors: Daniela and Nina from Germany, Albin from Sweden, and Ulan from Nigeria.

In one word, describe your Macquarie experience so far.
Ulan: New! Everything feels new.
Daniela: Multicultural
Albin: Welcoming

Your first thought when you arrived on the Macquarie campus?
Ulan: I was completely amazed. It was so big and the buildings were so amazing. I thought to myself, “I am definitely going to lose weight walking around this campus”.
Nina: My first thought was “wow, it’s so big”. But it’s also really green and there’s a lot of free space so you don’t feel like you’re on a big crowded campus.
Daniela: It is amazing how green the campus is. You can kind of recover from the hectic pace of the city, which is only a 30-minute train ride away.
Albin: This is really a campus!

The one thing you miss most about home?
Ulan: Family. Nothing beats family!
Nina: My friends, boyfriend and family. And sometimes German organisation ;)
Daniela: Thueringer Kloesse! (German dumplings)
Albin: Family, that’s it!

One place you don’t want to miss while you’re in Australia?
Ulan: The Blue Mountains. I have heard so much about them.
Nina: I really want to go to the Great Barrier Reef and the East Coast in general. And New Years Eve in Sydney!
Daniela: Tasmania.
Albin: The outback.
