Sandy Mihaljevic says she chose Macquarie for her studies in 2009 because the university could offer the kind of specialised course she was looking for – a double Masters degree in International Communication and International Relations – two areas she had focused on since working in public relations in Germany and South Africa.
Sandy now uses her skills working for one of the world’s most recognisable global skin care and consumer goods companies – the Beiersdorf Group, makers of the Nivea skin and beauty care range of products.
Sandy works as a Digital Producer in the online marketing area where her focus is on the company’s social media strategy and content management.
She looks after the company’s Australian and New Zealand Facebook pages, and the Australian You Tube Channel and Twitter account. She’s also involved with company newsletters, as well as managing and reporting on Facebook campaigns.
Other tasks include briefing and coordinating digital and media agencies, running Nivea’s loyalty program and overseeing to update websites, and overseeing the company’s community management initiatives.
With more than 20,000 people working worldwide for Beiersdorf, Sandy says her Macquarie experience was in many ways, the best preparation working for a leading global company.
“It was truly an intercultural experience,” she says of her time at Macquarie.
Taking classes and having discussions with students from all over the world also helped her become more comfortable with working in an English-speaking environment.
