“My Macquarie degree was a great stepping stone for my professional career in Australia,” says German graduate Franziska McCarthy.
“Apart from giving me a great theoretical foundation, it allowed me to develop my professional network early on,” she adds. “And through Macquarie’s internship program I found a job with a communications company that led to my current role.”
As a Marketing and Media Executive at Indonesia’s national airline Garuda Indonesia, Franziska manages the airline’s frequent flyer program, social media and corporate communications.
“I also work closely with key partners to develop direct and trade marketing campaigns,” she says.
Franziska’s first interactions with Garuda Indonesia came during her internship at ICON International Communications, who managed the airline’s PR and communications.
“I also worked with international travel brands like Lufthansa and Hertz, and FMCG clients such as Jägermeister,” Franziska says.
“In my jobs I’ve been able to witness Garuda Indonesia’s transformation into one of the region’s most awarded carriers and feel fortunate to have helped turn around the perception of the airline in Australia.”
Franziska first studied at Macquarie as an exchange student from Erfurt University in Germany.
Impressed with Macquarie’s international outlook and campus facilities, Franziska returned to the University to complete a Master of Arts in International Communication (now the Master of International Communication). She graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and a Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence.
“I truly enjoyed the international atmosphere at Macquarie and sharing my experience with like-minded students from all over the world.”
